ACL Return to Play

Finished with physical therapy but not ready to return to the field yet?  Our certified Sportsmetrics trainers will implement a program to assist with the transition back to sport.  An athlete’s body desires to be rhythmic and symmetrical to reduce injury risk and promote efficiency.  Our team will perform a gait analysis and store your “gait print” into our database to assess any asymmetries as well as your body’s natural rhythm.  This will be used as a baseline to determine effectiveness of the program as well as for future use in case of injury.  Our programs are evidence based and research biased targeting all the attributes an athlete needs to perform at the highest level.  These attributes include improving neuromusuclar control, promoting proper deceleration and acceleration techniques, application of proper landing and jumping to reduce ground reaction forces, improve strength, flexibility, mobility, stability, and rhythm. Training will advance through three different skill levels to provide a step by step progression for a functional transition to sport.  General guidelines/levels are below:

Level 1: 10-12 weeks post op (flexibility, strength, balance, linear movement, & landing mechanics)

Level 2: 12-14 weeks post op (lateral movement, direction change)

Level 3: 14-16 weeks post op (transition to sport, power & plyometrics/jumping)

*** Note:  Participant must be evaluated by a Summit Physical Therapy sports physical therapy staff member and take part in a screening that includes a musculoskeletal evaluation and a biomehanical analysis before being allowed to participate in their first session.  10 weeks post op is the earliest available window of time for participation. ***
